What is Strategy?

Wikipedia (The one source of the truth?)  defines strategy as, “a long term plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal, most often ‘winning.'”  -I personally prefer the achieving part, unless we are discussing athletic competition and then, of course, it’s all about winning.

It then differentiates Strategy from “tactics, or immediate actions, with resources at hand by its nature of being extensively premeditated, and often practically rehearsed.”  -Starting to get a little scary here, we’ll move on quickly…

Word Origin: The word derives from the Greek word stratēgos, which derives from two words: stratos (army) and ago (ancient Greek for leading). Stratēgos referred to a ‘military commander’ during the age of Athenian Democracy.  – Hence my love, as a child,  for the game Stratego.
